The Spanish manager had an unexpected criticism for the Belgian star.

Kevin De Bruyne is a two-time PFA Player of the Year and four-time Premier League championship winner, but the 31-year-old appears to be in decline in the 2022-23 season.

The Belgian star is showing his quality with more assists (13) than any other player in the English Premier League this season.

And he also gets the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

Guardiola, however, wants to see his star player perfecting some simple moves like he used to.

Guardiola had the following to say about De Bruyne's said decline:

"It's a difficult season for all of us, including me, because of the World Cup and many things. I don't need to say how good Kevin is."

"However, what I want from him is to be able to do some simple movements that he used to do very easily..."

"He has an unbelievable ability to make assists, score goals and make great passes like no one else."

"Simple things like not losing the ball, mobility, being active on the move, he can't do those things like he used to and he needs to repeat them. If you do that, the rest will come."

With a plethora of creative options at his disposal, Guardiola has made it clear that no one is a sure thing in his plans for the current season.

In October, he had this to say about De Bruyne: "He is not playing at his highest level."

"His dynamic movements are not perfect. He knows that, because I talked to him about it."
